Ministry Teams

Gather. Worship. Learn. Serve.

Evangelizing (E) Ministry Team stimulates and leads all members and ministries of the congregation in continuous and concerted endeavors to reach out and welcome those in the community who are not yet members of Christ’s Church, as well as to reach out to church members in need of encouragement and support, and those who no longer are active within the church community. The team shall lead all members and ministries to encourage people of all ages and cultures to be committed disciples in the community, respecting the dignity and worth of all people. The team shall encourage the formation of supportive relationships and foster intergenerational interaction. This ministry shall nurture leadership among the congregation so that all can be faithful to God’s call

Fellowship Ministry Team develops and implements programs and events to help meet the social needs of the congregation in a Christian context.  These include meetings, gatherings, and special events for our diverse participants and guests.  Fellowship Ministry team members assist with the recognition events in the life and ministry of congregational members and is the point of coordination for activities across the congregation.  Fellowship is a friendly association, especially with people who share one’s interest, who values fun and good fellowship as the cement of the community.  It includes companionship, companionability, sociability, comradeship, camaraderie, friendship, and mutual support.

Youth Ministry Team fosters and nurtures Christian spiritual and social values in our youth through the development and implementation of programs that increase spiritual awareness and understanding, minister to God’s people, and encourage outreach and fellowship. The Youth Ministry Team supports the All Saints Teen Youth Group by providing regular youth group meetings and events such as lock-ins. The youth ministry team also organizes regular mission trip opportunities and coordinates our participation in the triennial National Youth Gathering.

Worship and Music Ministry Team is responsible for planning and organizing all aspects of worship to enrich the spiritual life of the congregation. They strive to provide worship that is Christ centered, rooted in the Gospel, adheres to the liturgical calendar and ELCA worship practices. They coordinate with the pastor and director of music to ensure that the worship services of the congregation are conducted regularly and in accordance with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America worship practices. The team encourages all our members to participate in this planning process by providing ideas and suggestions to enhance our worship. One of the ways we do this is to offer an opportunity to review the Scripture readings for a particular upcoming Sunday, and select from a list of activities that encourage thinking about the readings in a different way. For examples of these activities and some of the results, please select Worship Planning.

Learn Ministry Team develops and implements an education program whose purpose is to teach the Word of God. The team is encouraged to use materials and resources that are offered by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Serve Ministry Team promotes faith in action by responding to the essential needs of the congregation, local, national, and international communities; and, provide direct and indirect assistance to congregation members, and encourage, enable, and expand service to the immediate and broader community. “Seeking justice and doing acts of service help us show God’s love in the world. Caring for others in Jesus’ name in tangible ways makes visible Christ’s presence, helps those we serve in places where they have need, and is a witness to the integrity and heart of Jesus’ followers.” (ELCA 2001). Social Ministries at All Saints speaks the voice of our church for social issues. Often the call of the sick, aged, orphaned, unemployed, underprivileged, the imprisoned, and those in need of aid goes unheard when our focus might be on other more pressing issues. It is our responsibility to call with a loud voice for the support of members and friends of this congregation in their time of need. It is equally important to call for responsible action for social justice and peace in Prince George’s & Anne Arundel counties, in this Nation and in the world. We stand accountable to raise the awareness of any injustice or need to which our Lord calls us (Matthew 25:31-46). All Saints seeks to “serve the world in the name of Jesus” through various service projects we lead throughout the year. Examples of service projects include Christmas in April, Gifts of Hope, Christmas at Shepherd’s Cove, yard/house clean-ups, Crop Walk, and the Bowie Food Pantry. Please e-mail serve@allsaintsbowie.org if you have questions about All Saints Social Ministry or you want to get involved and serve.

Stewardship Ministry Team strengthens and supports members of the congregation in their knowledge and understanding of their role as God’s stewards. This ministry shall provide leadership in developing programs that give all members of the congregation an opportunity to offer their time, talent, and monetary resources in thanksgiving to God and to carry out the ministries of the church. The Stewardship Ministry Team carries out its mission by:

  • hosting and/or participating with other ministry team representatives in an informal welcoming event to orient new members as to the nature and needs of the church;
  • developing and implementing a creative program in which every member of the church shall be contacted to offer them an opportunity to provide voluntary services and monetary resources to carry out the ministries of the church and to provide an avenue for the membership to express their thoughts, concerns, and suggestions on existing and future church activities and ministries;
  • providing other ministry teams and task groups, a listing of members desiring to volunteer their time and talent; and
  • making the congregation aware of the needs of the church, other congregations, the synod, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and providing an avenue for the Congregation to support these needs.

Budget and Finance Ministry Team has oversight responsibility for the financial affairs of the congregation. All Saints’ Budget and Finance ministry is responsible for the formulation of annual budgets and for tracking income and expenditures against those budgets throughout the year. This ministry team also handles ASLC’s insurance activities, arranges for offering counters, arranging annual audits, and deals with other financial matters as they arise. For example, the ministry team recently renegotiated the church mortgage at considerable savings. This ministry team meets extensively in the fall and early winter to formulate the budget and refine it when the stewardship drive concludes.

Property Management Ministry Team ensures that the physical assets of the congregation are properly maintained and protected, and that the appropriate equipment and/or contracts are available to perform this function. Our goal is to ensure the church is maintained in such a way that it is inviting, attractive, and appeals to members and visitors alike. It must be neat, orderly, and well-maintained. It should show we care and that we know He cares about us. The ministry team works to provide clean, comfortable, and attractive facilities for worship. The Church facility must also support our educational activities with clean, well-equipped classrooms and a nursery. We also open our church to the community for Girl Scouts, Alcoholics Anonymous, and other community groups to welcome people into the Lord’s house. The church is the scene of numerous social and fellowship events throughout the year. Those events are vital to the life of the church and it is equally important that our facility be equipped to support them. The appearance of the Church property has an important role in evangelism, it must be welcoming and stalwart. Like all worthwhile things, it takes quite a bit of work to maintain the Property to the standards we have established. But it isn’t all work; there is good fellowship among the committee members and the volunteers who support the various work activities. For most of us, gardening, home repairs, and woodworking are all hobbies. Is there a better use of these talents, skills, and interests? We share our interests, learn from each other, support each other, and we strengthen our friendships and our commitment to the Lord. If God didn’t want us to enjoy the fellowship of a lawn mowing party, he wouldn’t make the grass grow. The Property ministry team is about using your time, yourself and your possessions to show His gracious love.
